21 Dec Granknot Coffee
Granknot Coffee in Osaka’s Amerikamura neighborhood is the kind of place to get away from your hostel and plan your day with a great cup of coffee. It’s on the outskirts of Orange Street, Osaka’s stretch of hipster shops and restaurants where you can easily spend all day looking through second-hand clothes and Granknot coffee makes a good starting point or stopover. Though I do not think its coffee topped Giracha, Granknot’s advantage was that it had plenty of seating space and a wider selection of drinks. Their iced latte was like strong medicine in the heat and I can’t think of a better space to have enjoyed it.
Toward the front there were several stools across from the bar as well as some small tables. The majority of the seating was in the back with two communal tables large enough to sit at without bothering anyone else. There was a thrift store vibe to the place with old school chairs for seats with convenient leather pockets on the chair backs. Though we came late afternoon, their food options sound great for breakfast or lunch with your choice between a french toast platter or several American-style sandwiches. In addition, they had four options for pour-over coffee with refills for 300 yen.
You would think with such great seating and music it would be the kind of cafe where you could bring your laptop, but there wasn’t an outlet to be found anywhere. Power aside, Granknot is a great little coffee shop and I would have been thrilled to be stay in the neighborhood. It’s the perfect place to spend your morning just listening to music and sipping on a lovely pour-over while looking at a map of the neighborhood and deciding between soba and curry for lunch.
